Market Magician Tour 2019
Top 4 Farmer's Markets to find magic in Southern Ontario & Adventures of a #MarketMagician
This past summer, I embarked on the #MarketMagician tour, where I would try to street perform at as many farmer's markets as I could.
I busked in Hamilton, Ancaster, Dunnville, Pelham, Milton and more. I usually perform magic at cocktail parties and in restaurants - delivering magic on the street was a new and exciting experience.
I crafted my performing table out of a portable projector table I found on amazon. I Stitched my performance surface with some canvas, an old close-up pad and created a little pouch at the back that could hold my tricks. I would carry my entire act in a vintage suitcase and a collapsable milk crate. I made a canvas bag that could slip over the milk crate, and my suitcase would sit on top with a tip can. Business cards and other promotions (Like the OWOW! Magic Festival happening this October! - magicfestival.ca) could also be in the suitcase.
I was able to perform at so many amazing markets - I wanted to highlight four of my favourites.
1 - Locke St. Market
On the corner of Locke and Herkimer, in the parking lot of Locke St. Automotive is the Locke St. Farmer's Market. Locke St. is considered one of the smaller markets, but I would say it is one of the busiest! You can expect fresh local produce, meats, apples, flowers, bread & oat milk. Some of the featured vendors include The Barton General (https://www.bartongeneral.ca/), Drummond Apple Farms (http://drummondfarms.ca/) and Bistro Vie (https://bistrovie.ca/). The Locke St Market runs Saturdays 9 am - 1 pm.
2 - Milton Farmer's Market
Milton is Ontario's largest outdoor farmer's market - Milton has everything! The Main St. downtown is closed off, so local vendors (and magical entertainment) can take the streets and share all their products and talents. Running from 7 am till noon, you can check out over 40 local vendors. Milton is a market that can't be missed!
3 - Ancaster Farmer's Market
Tucked away in behind John's Anglican Church located at Halson and Wilson Street in Downtown Ancaster, you can find this gem of a market! Re-created in 2009 with one only one organic vendor, the market now showcases over 15 weekly local vendors. Set up in the middle you will often find great live entertainment like music or even magic!
4 - Dunnville Farmer's Market
I had never been to Dunnville until I got the chance to busk at the market. Located right next to the Grand River with an indoor and outdoor facility. The town and market are picturesque, and if you like to travel to new and exciting places - Dunnville Farmer's Market should be added to your list. The market runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
